Human IL-18BP Analyte Overview
Human IL-18BPα
Also known as IL-18 binding protein
Interleukin 18 binding protein (IL-18BPa) is an endogenous soluble factor that specifically inhibits the action of IL-18. IL-18BPa is constitutively expressed by mononuclear cells and is detectable in the serum of healthy humans at a high ratio to IL-18, suggesting that IL-18 concentration must overcome a threshold. However, mice with IL-18BPa deficiency mice have decreased levels of IL-18 in their blood, suggesting that IL-18BPa may also function as a carrier to maintain concentration of IL-18.
