Also known as brain derived neurotrophic factor, abrineurin
Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), also known as abrineurin, belongs to a family of neurotrophins that play crucial roles in the survival and differentiation of neuronal populations during development. BDNF is active in several regions of the brain including the hippocampus, cortex, and basal forebrain. Additionally, BDNF is expressed in the retina, kidneys, spinal cord, heart, lung, and skeletal muscle.
